Refreshing. Rejuvenating. Relaxing. Just a few words to describe our weekend at the beach house. We are so grateful for the sweet family who offered it to us. How did they know it was just what we needed? The view from the third floor balcony... Yes, I said third floor balcony. The house itself is amazing. It sleeps probably 10 to 14 people. And it's beautiful! We ended up not arriving until early evening Friday. We unpacked and then headed to a local seafood joint for dinner. It was great! Back at the beach house we watched Elf with Westen (Baron went to bed early) and then Austin and I sat outside listening to the ocean breeze, glass of pinot in hand, catching up after what has seemed to be a crazy couple months. Saturday morning brought clear skies and perfect weather. We made the short trek to the beach where hardly a soul was to be found. The boys played... Collecting shells, shoveling sand,... and walking to the edge of the water... ...only to get chased back by the incoming tide. It was darn near perfect! The afternoon was spent at the beach house napping. Having none of the usual daily distractions, we did in face all nap. It was awesome! Last night we headed to St. Augustine for the Nights of Lights display down town where we went on the Holly Jolly Trolley to check out the lights... Between the kids, jackets, a stroller, my purse, etc. I didn't really get any pictures of the lights themselves:( It was fun nonetheless, and very cheerful with the ever going Christmas music. After leaving there, I sweet talked Austin into stopping by another part of town for another display of Christmas. There were lights there too, but what the boys really liked was the Elf Village which seemed to be the perfect fit for them. And even though the boys fell asleep on the way back, they woke to get jammied and drink their milk which they took outside, this time on the second floor balcony, Westen in Austin's arms and Baron in mine. It was such a sweet time. After they were fast asleep, Austin and I stayed up to play a couple games of Scrabble - a game I think I've played maybe once ever many many years ago, and realized only last night that I thoroughly enjoy. And Austin too. Nerds...maybe. But whatev. And in case you're wondering, we won a game a piece:) The morning was spent lounging around in our jammies... Then while Baron took his morning nap, we began the clean-up that accompanies our family of four. And we called it day as far as our mini-vacation was concerned. It was a much needed weekend of quality time with each other. Back to reality now, but feeling refreshed. The time with my husband and kids were priceless. And it was nice to get away from the hustle bustle that comes along with this time of year and to just slow down for a minute to smell the roses, if you will. Another shot of God's beauty we captured from the house... So with clear minds and full hearts (yes I just quoted Friday Night Lights - love Kyle Chandler), we prepare for the week before Christmas! Hope you have a good one! Comments04/19/2012 05:15
That's a magnificent view, Kate! Yes, there is nothing more relaxing than spending a weekend at the beach. The photos of your kids while playing along the shores are priceless. The beach is certainly a great place to spend family time as the tides go by.

Leave a Reply | Welcome!Hi and welcome to our blog! I am Kate - wife of super high energy, super republican, super fun husband, Austin, and mother of 2 adorable, sweet boys - Westen and Baron! And mother of our eldest child, our sweet Boston Terrier, Cousey! Yeah, I'm outnumbered 4 to 1 so we have a home filled with rough-housing, trucks, trains, sports, you name it! I am what, over the years, has been called homemaker, housewife, and stay-at-home mom. I dare not say what today's society may call me (I kid... I kid!) I love being home with my boys and attempting to make my house a home. I'm what my mom calls "crafty", but feel more like a novice and hope to improve on my DIY and home-making skills.
